Car Buying Tips

 

INSIDE:

[ ]    Do the window switches, dials & guages work properly?

[ ]    Do the lights, indicators, wipers and washers work?

[ ]    Are the carpets and seats wet or stained? If yes, is there a leak?


OUTSIDE:

[ ]    Check for dents, scratches and rust?

[ ]    Are the rubber seals around the windows uneven? Check for re-spray and repair signs?

[ ]    Are there any signs of unmatched paintwork? Again this could be from a re-spray

[ ]    Pull the boot open, check the body work has no signs of buckling or over spray


ENGINE:

[ ]    Listen for knocking when you start first time

[ ]    Is the smoke from the exhaust clear after the engine has warmed up.

[ ]    Don't be affraid to rev the car a little to check for unexpected noises

[ ]    Coolant box - Should be bright colour liquid and not empty or brown?

[ ]    Making sure the engine is off and cooled down, check the oil - should not be thick & sticky?


DRIVE:

[ ]    Does it drive straight? loose grip the stearing and check for pulling or vearing off to the left or right

[ ]    Check for juddering, make sure gear change is swift and clean - no crunching or struggling to get gears?

[ ]    Breaking - check for noise or juffering when breaking?


Other Tips:

[ ]    Dont check the car in the dark or in the rain - you WILL miss something.

[ ]    Check the paperwork and look for major damage repairs, check service history

[ ]    DONT be affraid to ask questions

[ ]    DONT offer the full asking price - HAGGLE
